Climate Action Brookline holds meetings on the second Monday of each month.  However, due to Passover, the April 2017 meeting will be on Monday, April 17.  Location:  Community Room, Police Station, 350 Washington Street (note location change!).  7:00 - 9:00 PM

What is Citizen Science, and How Can We Use It to Improve Our Health and Our Environment?

The impacts of global climate change on the greater Boston area are insufficiently understood. Are there things the average person can do to ensure that science is used to improve our lives?

    • Jeffrey Warren will tell us about Community Science and Public Lab, a community non-profit that democratizes science by opening up research from the exclusive hands of “experts.” Public Lab promotes a hands-on, do-it-yourself ethos, by creating research tools that are low cost, open source, easy to use, designed and built through public participation and collaboration. Jeffrey Warren is Co-Founder and Director of Research for Public Lab and is on the board of alternative education program Parts and Crafts in Somerville MA.
    • Dr. Doug Brugge will tell us about his community-based research on health effects on Boston-area communities of the ultra fine particles emitted by fossil fuel vehicles. Dr. Brugge is Professor at Tufts University School of Medicine, where he directs the Community Assessment of Freeway Exposure and Health (CAFEH), a set of studies about ultrafine particles from traffic and their association with cardiovascular health risk. He directs the Tufts Tisch College Community Research Center, which uses a community-based participatory research approach.

CAB focuses on solutions. How would YOU like to use Citizen Science to improve our environment and our health?
