CCAB has several major efforts underway and we need volunteers to help make them happen.
- Door-to-Door and Farmer’s Market Outreach
This outreach involves one-to-one engagement with residents. We are boosting wind power by enrolling record numbers of residents in the fast and easy NSTAR GREEN sign up program. Residents and business can reduce carbon emissions 20% or more immediately. Help promote wind, identify residents interested in participating in Eco-Team workshops, and provide general energy saving tips. Become a door-to-door canvasser, phone bank caller, or in season, a farmer’s market volunteer. Contact: Ed Loechler, loecher@bu.edu, 617-353-9259.
- Brookline 2010: A Community Climate Challenge is a joint initiative with CCAB and the town Selectmen’s Climate Action Committee (CAC). The 2010 goal is to build awareness and a strong base of support among residents, non-profits, institutional, and business partners during the first of the three-year campaign. We need help planning our January 10th launch event, recruiting organizational partners, and hands on assistance for the afternoon event itself. Contact: Mary Dewart, MaryDewart@aol.com, 617-734-4224.
- Eco Team/Cool Mass Initiative including the Green Neighborhoods Challenge, School Green Teams and Area Congregations. Brookline is one of nine pioneering communities forming the EcoTeam/ Cool Mass alliance with Massachusetts Climate Action Network (MCAN). Household carbon emissions reductions will be aggregated across the meta-community learning network, as we innovate and share insights to success. We aim to engage “early adopters’, the first 15% of Brookline households, in 2010. If you are part of any organizations in Brookline, you can help organize small Eco-Teams and hold Low Carbon Living workshops while learning from others in small groups to reduce home energy use. Or work with us to help support partner organizations running Eco-Teams. Keep each other on target and reduce together! Contact: Don Weitzman, donweitzman@rcn.com, 617-738-7864.
There are also behind-the-scenes tasks that need to be done, for example, data management or recruiting speakers for our monthly meetings. Download the volunteer form to see the opportunities available. Questions? Contact our Campaign Director, MaryDewart@aol.com, 617-734-4224.
