CCAB: Climate Change Action Brookline Fact:
"The typical American household generates 55,000 pounds of carbon dioxide annually. The average German household contributes only 27,000 pounds and the Swedish household only 15,000 pounds. There is so much individuals can do to slow global warming. The need is urgent." David Gershon

About Us: Introduction

Climate Change Action Brookline (CCAB) is a group of volunteer activists committed to the vision of Brookline evolving from an energy-consuming community to an energy-conserving community.

Our vision: A flourishing, energy-efficient culture in Brookline

Our mission: Create a greener and healthier future by connecting Brookline citizens to the ways they can reduce their carbon footprint at home, at work and in the community

Our goal: Engage 85% of Brookline households with an average 25% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions relative to 2003

CCAB is a member of Massachusetts Climate Action Network (MCAN), a network of local and statewide groups dedicated to halting the threat of global climate change.

CCAB has identified the following primary goal:

To enlist participation of 85% of Brookline households in the Brookline Climate Action Campaign, with an average 25% reduction in GHC emissions compared to 2003.

We realize that this goal is an audacious one, but have adopted it for two reasons. First, we believe that the need for action is urgent and the time short. Second, we intend for Brookline to be a model for other communities and to accelerate positive action elsewhere. To these ends, we must dramatically and visibly reduce our community's carbon footprint.

We ask that everyone in Brookline take at least two actions:

  • First, if you pay for your household's electricity usage, sign up for NSTAR Green. This is by far the single simplest, most effective way to reduce a significant percentage of your home CO2 output. Click here for more information.
  • Second, sign up for a home energy assessment and then follow up on the recommendations to weatherize your home. Click here for more information on the Green Homes Brookline program.
